Institute of Cannabis Research

Overview of the ICR

The Institute of Cannabis Research is the state of Colorado’s official cannabis research institute as specified by Colorado law, HB 19-1311. The role and mission of the institute is to conduct and communicate scientific research. The institute is guided by a Governing Board whose members are appointed by the office of the Governor of Colorado, and includes prominent cannabis scientists, leaders from Colorado’s institutions of higher education, government, and cannabis business representatives. The Governing Board also directs the spending of money by the institute.

Research at the ICR

The ICR supports two independent research laboratories at CSU Pueblo. This includes a Plant Molecular Genetics Laboratory headed by Sang-Hyuck Park, PhD., and a Public Health Science Laboratory headed by Siyoung Choe, PhD.  The outcomes of the ICR’s research are published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and presented at national and international symposiums. ICR research includes CSU Pueblo student participation.

ICR Research at Large

The ICR also funds a variety of research projects which are conducted by Colorado researchers at qualifying institutions including worldwide collaborators. All funded projects are awarded through a competitive peer-review process which follows national best practices. ICR-funded projects are conducted by  researchers who produce the highest quality objective and unbiased research.
